Local Students Ask Community To Help Build Playground
September 22, 2017
Kids from Shady Lane and Valley View elementary schools are helping raise money for an all-inclusive playground, where children of all abilities can play together. The students decorated more than 400 grocery bags and handed them out Saturday to shoppers at the Piggly Wiggly on Appleton Road.
"I think that you have to see the kids that actually need it to understand it. It helps if we're here explaining that there'll be ramps and pieces of equipment that everyone can use," parent Sarah Johnson told us. Her daughter Vivian will start at Shady Lane in the fall, where the playground will be built. Vivian can't use the current equipment.
The kids raised a little more than $900 thanks to shoppers! The playground will be built by volunteers in the summer of 2019.
